Chapter 6-Dramatic Irony

After the Americans had been with the Englishman for some time they were informed in a meeting in the theater that they would be moving to Dresden. As the Englishmen told the Americans how much they envied them for being able to go to Dresden, they told them that they would be safe in Dresden. They told them "You needn't worry about bombs by the way. Dresden is an open city. It is undefended, and contains no war industries or troop concentrations of any importance." For the reader this quote creates dramatic irony because we know more than the Englishman who told them they were safe. We know that Dresden will be bombed because Billy knew this from his time travels and has told us, but the Englishman did not kow this so he thought they would be better off where they were going.
